Background to the song
Sohini, Olly and our friends at Khiyo have arranged a song for us.
Moro Jhonjhar Moto Uddam is a song by the Bengali poet and musician Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Sohini has translated the song for us. The words are very empowering – ” We are as intense as a storm. We are as restless as a flowing spring…We are open-hearted vistas. We are the unshakeable strength of mountains.”
There are many, many recordings of the song on the internet. Khiyo’s version is fabulous – you’re going to love it!
How we will perform the song
We will sing the song in unison. Everyone will sing the refrain and the middle section. Half the choirs will sing verse 1, and half the choirs will sing verse 2. Schools will know which verse they have been allocated. There are quite a lot of words, but there is also a lot of repetition. Sohini’s “my turn your turn” learning tracks (the pink buttons) will be an enormous help.
